Quarantine Diaries: Day 100

22nd of June 2020, Monday

The 100th time for anything is usually celebrated in much jubilation. Our University centennial. A milestone for 100 days in school. The 100th episode of a TV series. The birthday of a centenarian. This milestone is different: it’s sad, uncertain, and scary.

I’ve kept myself busy since my last Quarantine Diary entry, and boy! Does time fly fast. Has it really been 55 days since?! Okay. Let me take stock of my life thus far.

THE PANDEMIC

As of yesterday, the number of confirmed cases has finally breached the 30,000 mark. In terms of gross number of cases, we rank 39th globally, and 3rd in Southeast Asia behind Indonesia & Singapore. If I wear my economist hat and correlate it with population size (without even considering how dense the living conditions in the Philippines are), the alarming number is that of Singapore’s with almost 2900 people infected for every million vs the Philippines 80+ per million. We’ve also done ~200,000 more tests than Indonesia, whose population is twice ours.

But bottomline, these statistics suck for everyone.

I’m still thankful none of our loved ones have been afflicted with the virus. I miss them terribly.

THE PARENT-PARTNER

Graduation has been officially cancelled. Hurray for our kiddo finishing with honors, Little Miss Independent since 2014.

We’ve decided continue the kids’ schooling with a new Online Distance Learning medium. I’ve attended the virtual open houses and it seems fun. It’s a big plus that no one (read: ME) needs to wake up too early for the morning school rush. Having to pay the same tuition is another topic.

I’ve grown weary of cooking.

I’ve finally tried baking bread. Salute sa mga pandero!

Some of my plants wilted during the summer.

The downtime has been a good opportunity to strengthen our business team’s virtual platform.

THE PLAN

I’ve really gotta start my Decluttering Project again!

How about you, how was your 100 days in quarantine?
