The Opportunity Cost of Stay-At-Home Motherhood in the Philippines

This 2019, I would have celebrated my 17th year as a corporate manager on August 15 had I stayed employed. But instead, I decided to spend the last 8 years as a Stay-At-Home Mom (SAHM). As with any milestone that I reach, marked by anniversary dates such as this, I always try to look back and assess how that decision turned out for me. Consider it a reckoning of sorts; my way of designing my life moving forward. And this year, now that I’m experiencing some slack in my SAHM schedule, I noticed a growing feeling of uneasiness. Being the compulsive analyzer that I am, I tried to make sense of it the best way I know how: with facts and figures. This would probably make an interesting Sociological or Economics thesis.
