Quarantine Diaries: Day 7

21st of March 2020, Saturday

Unlucky 7, Lucky 13

My calendar beeped early today to remind me of my daughter’s Grade School Graduation. Prior to the outbreak, the culminating program of her grade school class was scheduled for today. The graduation rites have been optimistically deferred to June, as we fervently hope that this outbreak is quelled and under control by then.

Instead of a celebration, this 7th Day of Community Quarantine marks the highest cases of new COVID cases confirmed in a day: 77, bringing the country’s total to 307. That’s a lot of 7s. I’ve heard somewhere that 7 is the universe’s number; a symbol of completeness and perfection. But in light of today’s COVID-19 updates, the number 7 fills me with trepidation for the future; while the superstitiously unlucky 13 sparks hope as it counts the number of recoveries todate.
